Extra Help for Prescription Drugs

Thousands of Floridians are eligible for Extra Help, but are still not taking advantage of the drug cost relief. Extra Help is a  program designed to help seniors with limited resources and incomes with Medicare prescription drug costs.

Under a new law, your house, car and life insurance policy are no longer counted as resources. They will include bank accounts, stocks, and bonds.  For an individual, your resources must be limited to $12,640.   Annual income is limited to $16,335.   For couples, resources are limited to $25,260. Annual income is limited to $22,065.

You can apply for Extra Help by doing one of the following:

1.   Go to your local Social Security office

2.   Call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213

3.   Apply online at   www.socialsecurity.gov/extrahelp.
